The Chaser guys are d*!#heads…

the-chaserAnd that’s being polite. So do I really need to say anymore? Well everyone else is so I might as well too.

If you didn’t watch The Chaser last night on ABC then you can be very thankful that you didn’t have to see the ‘skit’ where they mocked dying children. Yes you read correctly, dying children.

From www.ninemsn.com.au: In the sketch, Chaser members Andrew Hansen and Chris Taylor ask actors playing terminally ill children to make a wish.

One girl tells Hansen she wants to meet Hollywood teen heartthrob Zac Efron, but instead she is handed a stick.

Taylor at one point says the fictional foundation’s aim is to help “thousands of kids to lower their extravagance and selfishness in the face of death”.

The final sentence was the one that did it for me: “Why go to any trouble when they’re only going to die anyway”. How disrepectful and cold-hearted. I bet they wouldn’t have found it so funny had they lost a child or was close to someone that had. I cannot imagine what it would be like to loose a child, but seeing this skit didn’t make laugh it made me want to cry.

The ABC released this statement today:

“The ABC and The Chaser did not intend to hurt those who have been affected by the terminal illness of a child,” ABC TV boss Kim Dalton and the show’s executive producer Julian Morrow said in a statement released today.

“We acknowledge the distress this segment has caused and we apologise to anyone we have upset.

“As a result, ABC TV will edit the segment out of tonight’s repeat screening on ABC2 and on-line.”

Wow, how nice of them to edit it for tonight. It’s not like you can download it on YouTube or anything. I think that the time has come for The Chaser to disappear from our screens. Once upon a time they may have been funny and yes I have laughed out loud at some of their skits. Now they are just plain stupid and are causing unneccesary hurt and pain. How this even got to air in the first place is beyond me and they should all be ashamed of themselves.

If you missed the clip and you really want to see it, I’m afraid you’ll have to find it yourself. I did have it here, but as you will see from the comment, I totally agree with Ben. These guys don’t deserve any air time at all.

Couldn’t agree more Ami. Their Political satire has always been very good however this well ove rthe mark, and just seems like a ratings grab using shock tactics. Maybe you should the link off your site as well and give them no air time at all!

I did think about that yesterday and now couldn’t agree more so I have removed the link.

What I couldn’t believe last night was the insincere apology that they gave on camera to ACA. One of them even said that it wasn’t meant to offend anybody and it was black comedy. You can imagine that more explitives other than d*!#head came out of mouth.
