Refreshers Anonymous

refresh_iconI fear I need to attend ‘Something Anonymous’ to help curb my new, ok well not so knew but ever growing addiction.

Substance abuse? No. Alcohol? No. Too many mango smoothies? No. It’s not even shopping. It’s, are you ready for it? The Refresh button on my computer. Please don’t all gasp at once!

I huffed and puffed a while back about being a digital gal. You can read about that HERE in case you missed it. And now I fear my online ‘habit’ has gone from a couple of puff’s when I’m drinking to a 2 packs a day kind of addiction. (No I’m not a smoker just a good analogy).

Hang on I just need to go hit refresh on my email.

Ok, I’m back and no one has sent me anything. See it’s an addiction.

Ok, time to focus. You see I fear that this fast paced digital world has got the better of me. I love the instantness of online and with the attention span of a 2 year old it really is perfect for me. The ever changing, ever evolving, new information appearing here and there every 2 minutes, I love it!

But then what happens when I can’t find a new blog post somewhere to entertain me, or there hasn’t been any breaking news for 20 minutes and no one is sending me emails, or Facebook messages or Tweets, and I’m constantly hitting the REFRESH button and NOTHING is happening? Gosh it’s all just too much, or not enough?!!

See! ADDICTION! But you know what? I don’t think I could give up even if I really wanted to. These are the times we live in and clearly I have embraced the digital and social media world whole heartedly.

Now excuse me while I go and refresh. My computer that is…

Hi, my name is Nomie, and I’m a technoholic… it’s been 5 mins since my last status update.
Ah yes… the refresh button… and to add to my own technology addiction, I’m finding sometimes facebook lets me down, and doesn’t let me know that 3 people have commented on my status straight away… and what if they are really important comments? I’ve just added to my addiction with an iphone… oh dear!

I think we should start a support group. Hubby asked me the other night how many people had viewed my profile on my blog. I said, “Ooh – 47″. And then I thought about it, and added, “But, quite a lot of those are probably me.” Tsk, tsk.

    We need help gals.

    Great post Ami.
