The 6pm Feed

While Sophie’s day feeds are fun and entertaining as she slurps like she’s never been fed, sighs like she’s just drank a million litres of milk and then smiles so big your heart melts, it’s the 6pm feed that’s my favourite.

She’s all clean after her bath, her hair all curly, her skin all soft. And as she finishes gulping her dinner she looks up at me and smiles all sleepy and gives me a look of ‘thanks for the milk mum’! I then sit her up, her chubby little cheek pressed against my chest. She let’s rip an almighty burp; one to make Daddy proud! She snuggles in and sighs ready for a good night sleep.

She’s so soft and warm, and I just want to sit like this for hours. Just me and my precious baby girl. As I sit there I think. I think about the day we’ve had. The smiles, the little chats. The songs we’ve sung – Locomotion is a favourtie at the moment! Clearly got her mum’s good taste in music. I think how quickly she’s growing, and how I wish I could slow it down. I think how I desperately wish I could go back to the day she was born and hold her as a tiny newborn for just a few more minutes.

I think how tired I am, and how I should have had a day nap. I think how much I’m not looking forward to getting up during the night; but I’d do it 50 times if I had too – just for her. I think how lucky I am to have such a wonderful family. I think about how wonderful Jack our dog is with Sophie, and how in the not too distant future they’ll be running around together, best of friends.

I think how happy I am. And how I still can’t believe that this little baby girl really is all mine.

I think how life just couldn’t get any better. And that’s why I love the 6pm feed.
