Exhibit A: Daytime Napper

Yesterday I touched on a subject very dear to my heart, and one that I think deserves a post all on its own. You know to show how important it is and not get lost amongst a plethora of other words.

I am of course talking about, daytime naps. Or otherwise known as Nanna naps. Usually such a luxury is reserved for small children you can read about that HERE, and of course for the elderly. Other lucky daytime nappers include those who have no responsibilities and can nap on weekends (me), those who work part time in an office and part time from home (me) and those who don’t work at all, (unfortunately not me).

Other nappers, are those who without a daytime nap would probably crumble and fall in a heap, new mum’s. You know the old rule, when baby sleeps, so do you. Yep that’s exactly what I intend to do. I’ve been practicing, mainly on Sunday afternoon’s, when the puppy is asleep so am I. But come to think of it, the puppy’s always asleep.

Anyway, you get my point.

If you’re not a daytime napper, you either get too much sleep at night time, or you’re a freak and your body can function on either a) a little amount of sleep, or b) you have too much energy, and could you please send some my way. Not only am I old before my time by sitting at home on a Saturday night watching a movie and eating mango and ice cream, I also start to get a little, ok a lot narky and can very easily lose my shit if I haven’t had that little bit of extra sleep in the form of a daytime nap sometime during the week or weekend.

And so, I would like to bring your attention to the next potential Prime Minister of Australia. She, yes she, would make daytime naps mandatory. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Bern Morley, of the politically party, I mean blog, So Now What?, will introduce the most important policy this Country will ever see. All over the country not just preschools, but workplaces will have to introduce a quiet time area, where workers can rest their weary heads. Maybe a 20 minute power nap will do the trick for you, or you might like to push your napping break to more of a sleep. Either way, please join me in chanting:

Vote 1 Bern Morley for Prime Minister, because our country needs more daytime nappers. Oh and this just in: an additional fan-dangle policy will include free Tim Tams on Australia Day. Seriously, what more could you ask for!

Fairy Wings

When I grow up or invent time travel which ever comes first I’d like to be a kid. A blissifully happy, pink wearing, cupcake eating, fairy wing donning kind of girl.

It’s a classic case of we always want what we don’t have, until we have it and then… well you know how it goes. We spend so much time as a kid wanting to be grown up, wearing mum’s high heels and make-up, playing mum to dolls, that when we hit adulthood, sometimes it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

Suddenly school Monday – Friday 9am – 3.15pm, with a gazillion weeks holiday a year doesn’t seem so bad, or a couple of days at preschool were funfilled playdates. While pocket money wasn’t much it didn’t have to go towards a mortgage or a phone bill. Stuffing yourself full of cake and lollies was not met with ‘watch your weight’ and being a little tubby was endearing ‘baby fat’.

Putting stuff on your face consisted of pink glitter and having butterfly wings painted on your cheeks, not the pressure of making sure your foundation matched your skin tone, and the pressure of applying eyeliner with the upmost precision.

Dirty clothes meant you’d had a fantastic time playing in the park, and not that you were a grub. Chucking a sickie had less consequences, and daytime naps were encouraged, not discouraged. Oh the day time nap.

While chucking a tantrum is still met with disapproving looks, there’s nothing like the feeling of relief after having a bloody good cry. Kid, or otherwise.

An outing to the shopping centre in a princess tiara and fairy wings was met with ‘oh isn’t she just adorable’, not um, excuse me it’s not fancy dress day at Coles today, nor would it mean you’d had a massive night out at a fancy dress party and were on your way home at 10am the morning after the night before.

And so I have to leave you now and return to my adult life. But maybe I’ll sneak in a cupcake and a daytime nanna nap. However, I think I’ll save the fairy wings for, you know, things like doing the dishes. At the end of the day, it’s always good to be a big kid at heart.

It’s baaack! Yes I’ve been a bit slack with Fun Friday, but it’s back today with a bit of achy breaky heart! No just kidding I wouldn’t do that to you! I do however have some yeeeha country music for you as a little dedication to my hometown Tamworth which is currently rocking out to the beats of Keith Urban, and the like during a little thing called the Country Music Festival!

Trust me, you’ll love this kid! Now excuse me, I’ve got some bootscooting to do!

Happy Friday!
